Day 1

Day 2

Half Day Excursion – Orongo & Rano Kau (regular):

The tour starts off in Rano Kau – dormant volcano – located at the Southeast end of the Island. Later the Orongo ceremonial village is found where the Bird Man (Tangata Manu) competition used to be held. This ritual consisted of one competitor from each family struggling to obtain one egg of The Bird (Manutara), which nested on Motu Nui islet. Hundreds of petroglyphs and a spectacular view of the islets facing shore can be seen in this village. After that, visit Ahu Vinapu – shrine where ancestors from every family were worshiped. It was made up of one elevated platform that normally held one or more Moais. Approximately out of a number of 300 Ahu, this installation consisted of 3: Vinapu I, Vinapu II, Vinapu III. Lastly explore Ana Kai Tangata cave (3 meter high). Here it’s possible to watch cave painting on its rock-ceiling representing Bird Man.

Día 3

Half Day Excursion – Ahu Akivi (regular):

Visit platform that holds 7 restored Moai. Legend tells these 7 statues are the representation of the first explorers that arrived in Rapa Nui sent by King Hotu Matua. Next explore Ana Te Pahu Cave and its volcanic corridors. The last place to be visited is Puna Pau quarry, where Pukao (Moai’s stone-hats) were sculpted.

Day 4

Full Day Excursion – Rano Raraku & Anakena with box lunch (regular) :

The tour begins visiting Vaihu – non-restored Ahu – consisting of one elaborate stone platform, 8 abandoned statues, and 8 Pukao spread out nearby. Across the Ahu there’s a stone circle used for Paina ceremonies, where death was honoured. Up next Ahu Akahanga, whose legend tells of the famous King Hotu Matua’s tomb. This Ahu (18 meters long, 3,25 meter wide) held 13 Moai, which have been torn down and even deliberately damaged. Later on, arrival in one of Rapa Nui’s most important cultural site – Rano Raraku quarry, where approximately 900 statues were sculpted. 397 of these are still found lied down or standing up showing different stages of construction and transportation. Coming up next, visit Ahu Tongariki holding 15 standing statues, which had been restored between 1995 and 1996 by Chilean archaeologists. By the end of the tour, beautiful, white-sand, palm tree bearing, turquoise water Anakena beach is visited. According to the legend, this place was inhabited by kings and their families. This beach is guarded by seven sad-looking Moai topping their head with restored stone-hats. The biggest Ahu found in the area is known as Nau Nau.
